Estate Planning: Healthcare Surrogate
This is part five in a six part series that aims to provide general information about various documents that can be helpful in Estate Planning
Today, we’re going to provide information about a document known as the Healthcare Surrogate - what it is and why you should consider having one.
What is a Healthcare Surrogate?
This is an Estate Planning tool that allows you to appoint one or more individuals to make medical decisions for you when you are unable to make or express those decisions for yourself.
Why should I consider having a Healthcare Surrogate?
A completed Healthcare Surrogate ensures that someone you trust will be in charge of making important medical decisions in your best interest when you cannot do so. Without a Healthcare Surrogate in place, those decisions might very well be made by healthcare providers and judges you and your loved ones have never met.
